EPISODE 1: The Arrival
At exactly 8:00 a.m., a silver Probox rolled into Kenya Kwanza Girls High School, one of the most admired extra-county boarding schools — famous for producing academic giants and sports queens.
Out stepped Maimuna: tall, slim, light-skinned, with neatly done hair that looked like it had been styled by angels on their off-day.
She stood straight, a small smile on her lips, eyes scanning the school like she had already memorised the map from Google Earth.
Beside her walked her mother, Mrs Jillo — tired, anxious, and holding the brown envelope that carried the documents which would determine her daughter’s fate.
Together, they approached the Administration Block.
Waiting inside was Mrs. Chai, the Deputy Principal (Administration).
EPISODE 2: Mrs. Chai
Mrs. Chai was a tall woman who moved like a shadow — quietly, slowly, and with a softness that deceived fools into thinking she was harmless.
But Kenya Kwanza students knew better.
Her nickname was Madam C.I.D.
Not because she solved cases
— but because cases feared her.
Rumour had it that she once looked at a Form One student for three seconds and correctly predicted:
- She had sneaked in forbidden biscuits
- She had hidden them behind the dorm locker
- She had eaten three on the way
- And she would confess in 5… 4… 3…
Her face today was its usual: stone-cold, unreadable, and professionally suspicious.
She took Maimuna’s envelope.
Flipped through the documents.
Lifted her eyes slowly, like a CCTV camera locking onto a suspect.
“So,” she said softly, “health reasons?”
Maimuna nodded with the innocence of a saint.
Mrs. Chai’s eyebrow rose by half a millimetre — the equivalent of a full-blown explosion from any other human being.
But she said nothing.
Instead, she signalled the School secretary, Mrs. Bakuli.
“Take her to the Director of Studies for academic assessment.”
And just like that, the real grilling began.
